Patients On Drug Treatment For High Cholesterol To Consider Taking CoQ10 According To DNA-shift®

(Medical-NewsWire.com, February 29, 2016 ) Portland, Oregon -- Controlled trials and long-term studies raise the concern of CoQ10 depletion caused by certain cholesterol lowering drugs (statins).

The CoQ10-lowering effect of statins may have potential adverse consequences (Littarru GP, Langsjoen P., 2007). Patients taking these medications may benefit from taking CoQ10 supplements.

According to a spokesperson of the DNA-shift wellness company, statins are widely used for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases. Unfortunately, CoQ10 blood plasma levels may be lowered in the course of this treatment. This is because of biosynthetic pathways that are shared by CoQ10 and cholesterol. Using statins to prevent cholesterol synthesis may also prevent the body's own production of CoQ10. This may result in impaired muscle and myocardial bioenergetics and other adverse side effects. Patients should be aware of this possible drug interaction.

It would be reasonable to hypothesize that the safer route would be to supplement with CoQ10 if the person was on a statin cholesterol lowering drug. This may reverse the CoQ10 depletion.

For patients not on statins, supplementing with CoQ10 may also help to prevent cardiovascular diseases such as cardiomyopathy and help lower blood pressure. It also acts like an antioxidant which works against age related degenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's, and may improve brain health. It has been shown to have beneficial effects on certain migraine sufferers and positively influence the immune system, amongst other benefits. There are numerous scientific studies to support this (Langsjoen PH, Langsjoen AM.1999).

As CoQ10 blood plasma levels also drop with age, raising the plasma CoQ10 levels may be a good investment towards an anti-aging wellness program even if not on statins. ‘Investing wisely in health during one's youth may reap many benefits later on in life,' adds DNA-shift spokesperson. ‘This is why the DNA-shift company advises taking a good quality CoQ10 supplement as part of a daily wellness routine.'

DNA-shift® CoQ10 supplement features 200mg extra strength Coenzyme Q10 capsules which are free from gluten and contain no preservatives. They consist of 100% natural active ingredients and are non-GMO.

Before using a dietary supplement, consult physician.
