These counterfeit products are sold for a far lessor price than the original product.
These hijackers stalk the various market places such as Amazon, looking for signs of products that are selling well, with great volume means that the product is selling well with great returns. This is an indicator for the hijacker to take action, and implement a takeover of the company's listing page online, and control the "buy box".
This strategy used by the hijacker, by using the company's listing and under cutting the price, is deemed legal in certain market places, providing they are selling the same product and not counterfeit, in most cases, the hijacker has obtained only a few of the company's products, be it through a promotion, or a campaign of sorts.
This type of hijacking is normally dealt with a legal cease and desist letter, which will get the hijacker on the run, but sometimes they will not budge, so it is advisable then to purchase one of their products, to check to see if it matches the company's product. If it does not match, then the company has every right to go to the market place and complain that this hijacker is selling a counterfeit product, and is bringing their name and product into disrepute.

Rather than taking control of the "buy box" over the Vida menstrual cup, this hijacker copied and pasted the company's entire copy on their listing page, and was selling their product using the company's copy, which is very hard to detect.
A statement from the company spokesman Albert Jones said, "With this type of unethical behaviour, which involved the Vida Cup feminine hygiene product, it was established that this hijacking continued for months without detection, and sales had suffered considerably because of this. Since the hijacker was found, sales have gone back to normal."
