Although researchers and physicians still haven't pinpointed the exact reason how asthma develops, there are some who thinks it's because of genetics and allergies that have a big role in deciding how likely a person will have asthma. The triggers which are certain substances or conditions, also causes asthma symptoms to appear in people that are sensitive to it. These triggers can include indoor and outdoor air pollution, tobacco smoke, pet dander, and even cleaning sprays.
Asthma isn't fully understood but if a person that has one parent with asthma will be more likely to suffer from asthma as well than a person whose parent don't. There are no definitive studies what the part of genes really are in causing asthma but some have explained that there are people whose genes are programmed to respond to certain triggers while others don't. Eating a lot of food rich in antioxidants such as fruits and vegetables can help protect a person from oxidative stress in turn decreasing the risk of asthma.
It is general knowledge that outdoor air pollution plays a big role in causing asthma symptoms to appear, but people who don't usually go outside are still at risk because of indoor pollution. The most common indoor air pollution triggers for asthma is tobacco smoke. There have been studies that show children who live with a smoking parent have higher risk in developing asthma. Another indoor air pollution are cleaning products. Spray cleaners, diluted bleach, furniture cleaners de-greasers and air fresheners are all said to be triggers for asthma attack. There are also allergens like pollen, dust and dirt inside homes and buildings that can trigger asthma.
There are many causes and triggers of asthma but the more a person know about the causes of the asthma attacks, the more prepared the person will be to prevent an attack. Having air purifiers at home to clean the air can help a lot in preventing asthma attacks.
