Norman overcame heroin addiction and a life of crime, which included a six year prison sentence for manslaughter. After rediscovering his love for learning and beginning a life skills program for transitioning back into society, Norman continued working to improve the lives of others, eventually coming to work for Columbia University. Despite limits placed on the number of courses university employees can take during a semester, David Norman completed his goal of gaining his Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy. He plans to continue working with Columbia University and write a book.
