(Medical-NewsWire.com, February 26, 2017 ) Cincinnati, OH -- Fox19 reports that 21 students at Miami University over the weekend of February 9th to the 12th due to alcohol-related illnesses. While incidents occurred both on and off campus, the Vice President of Student Affairs attributed the incidents to recruitment events occurring at the university. The shifted preference of hard liquor over beer by college students is also assumed to have contributed to the 21 cases of hospitalization. Underaged drinking was also involved on more than on occassion.
As a leading provider of alcohol rehab in Cincinnati, Cincinnati Drug Rehab urges the public to recognize the serious nature of alcohol poisoning. Given the large scale nature of this medical emergency, Cincinnati Drug Rehab warns people to recognize that legality does not equal safety.
A representative of Cincinnati Drug Rehab comments, "Alcohol abuse has serious consequences, yet we continue to treat it without the proper regard it deserves. On college campuses- when most teens and young adults get their first tastes of freedom- alcohol is seen as the key to a good time. Underage drinking is a problem on campuses across the country, but when events like this occur, we must take them seriously. Miami University should take action in preventing possible tragedy rather than flippantly saying it's 'college kids being kids.' We need to education about the dangers of binge drinking, the signs of alcohol poisoning, and counseling availability."
