 (EMAILWIRE.COM, January 07, 2012 ) New York, NY -- A new study published in Addiction Biology focuses on the behavior of mice that have been bred to prefer alcohol over other beverages and may offer a glimpse into how genetics may influence an alcoholicsÂ’ preference to consume alcohol.
While the report doesnÂ’t specify how the mice were bred, it states that the group of mice was selectively bred over 40 generations to prefer alcohol. When given the choice of alcohol or other drinking choices, this new breed of mice preferred alcohol each time, consuming a quantity that caused their blood-alcohol to reach levels greater than 260 mg/dl, more than three times the legal limit in humans and the most that even the most severe alcoholic could drink daily.
