By offering these services, PEC strives to help individuals reach their full potential and achieve long-term economic and personal self-sufficiency. Listed below are brief descriptions of the services and programs that are available through PEC.
Emergency Housing– PEC’s Emergency Housing program provides homeless families with a safe, warm and secure place to stay. They provide homeless women and children with basic needs such as: shelter, food, healthcare, clothing and safety.
Transitional Housing – As families in PEC’S emergency shelter acquire core life skills, they are then eligible to move to one of PEC’s eleven single-family transitional housing rooms. Transitional Housing allows families to gain more financial responsibility to help prepare them for independent living.
Permanent Housing – PEC offers permanent housing opportunities to families who have graduated from PEC’s transitional housing. These families are provided with case management for a full year who assist them on how to run a household and be a good neighbor, provide them with job tips, health care, mental healthcare, childcare, and addiction assistance.
Case Management– PEC provides families with case management for their first year of independent living. Case managers work closely with mothers and children to ensure that they are receiving intensive, individualized care. Case managers have a daily contact with mothers and children. The case managers support and encourage these individuals and help them to access the services and treatment in which they need to live a more successful and independent life.
Individual/Family Therapy- PEC offers a variety of family services that help families overcome adult and childhood trauma such as family violence and sexual abuse. PEC provides individual and group counseling for mothers and children in the emergency shelter and transitional housing.
Healthcare Programs – PEC provides on-site healthcare services to families. They offer health assessments, health screening for children, workshops on nutrition and child development, clinical services and prevention education for PEC residents and employment program participants.
Parents Programs- In hopes of helping mothers become better parents, PEC offers Effective Black Parenting Workshops as well as Life Skills Workshops. These programs teach mother’s how to handle situations, improve their self-esteem, learn how to cope with stress, manage their feelings and better understand how their behavior affects their children.
Children’s programs – PEC offers an afterschool program as well as a summer enrichment program. These programs are designed to help children perform better in school and encourage parent involvement in their children’s growth and education.
Employment & Training – The Job Opportunities and Business Skills (JOBS) program provides homeless mothers transitioning from welfare to work with the assistance they need to become successful. The JOBS program offers job readiness assistance, vocational training and certification, job placement opportunities and employment case management. The JOBS program also allows parents to transmit documents, report work hours and resolve problems with their welfare case workers through E-assist online.
