HealBlog Offers Top Tips for Beating the Summer Heat

(Medical-NewsWire.com, August 16, 2012 ) Bucharest, Romania -- Summer temperatures have been among the highest in decades throughout the United States, and with these extreme temperatures, comes the need for precaution when it comes to exercise and physical activity.

In 2011, the National Weather Service reported 206 heat related deaths in the United States, and exercising in the heat can be particularly taxing for many individuals.

“We see so many heat related deaths, yet people aren’t taking the proper precautions to protect themselves,” said the editor of Heal Blog, a website dedicated to providing medical, diet and exercise advice. “People are becoming more focused on health and exercise, and many people will be so motivated to increase their stamina that they’ll push themselves too hard in the summer months, and find themselves in a very dangerous situation.”

Heal Blog put together the top 5 tips to help build stamina during the steamy days of summer.

1. Remain hydrated. Hydration is one of the most importance aspects of any exercise or physical activity, particularly during dangerously hot summer months.

2. As the temperatures are on the rise, be sure to expose yourself regularly. Begin by engaging in outdoor activities for short time periods, and then as you become acclimated to the heat, your stamina will increase, despite the temperatures. It can take up to 14 days to become used to extreme temperatures, so give yourself time.

3. Start easy when it comes to physical activity or exercise. You should never start off too quickly, particularly in the heat of summer. Begin with a walk or easy exercise, and gradually increase your routine as you feel your stamina building. Even an activity like gentle yoga is a good way to increase endurance and stamina, as you acclimate to summer temperatures.

4. Make changes in your diet. Although it may be overlooked, diet plays a big role in stamina, particularly during the more physical intense summer months. A healthy diet is going to help you feel better overall, and increase your stamina, even if the temperatures are high.

5. Exercise in the early morning or late evening during the summer months. This will allow you to build your stamina and challenge yourself, without the risk of exercising the direct sun and the highest temperatures of the day.

“We offer health advice and articles, and we have a number of readers who want to increase their stamina, but we also feel it’s so important to emphasize the importance of safety and caution during the summer months,” said the editor of Heal Blog. “Just because it’s summer and the temperatures are at record highs doesn’t mean you can work towards building your stamina and getting in great shape, but it’s important to educate yourself and know your limits.”
