(Medical-NewsWire.com, August 22, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- Exercise has always been a healthy activity to maintain the body balance and gain good health. But for some special purposes, doing daily exercise creates a lot of impact not only on the body but also on the mind of the patient.
The same kind of study has been conducted by some researchers from Duke University Medical Center as they proved that the heart failure patients can relieve their depression with daily exercise. The Duke University Medical Center researchers’ team concluded their research on the findings that the chronic heart failure patients can improve their mental and cardio-vascular health performing daily exercise.
The study team from DUMC visited 82 medical centres in the United States, Canada and France, and enrolled 2,322 patients for their tests at 82 medical centres in the United States, Canada and France. These selected patients were assigned to receive usual care randomly which included all the important and necessary medications.
Along with that, they also recommended that the patient exercise on a regular basis, which they believed would be helpful in relieving their depression. They spent some time with each patient to make them exercise daily for thirty minutes per day for three days. After that, they let the patient do their exercise without the supervision of the doctors which was successful too.
Leader of the team and the author of the study, James A Blumenthal said, “Exercise has been shown to be safe for people with heart disease, and it also improves depression. These data show the combined benefits of exercise for this population include improved mental health and improved cardio-vascular health.”
After the finish of the drill, the patients were asked to fill out a questionnaire. This form contained measurements of depressive symptoms such as feelings of sadness, irritability, hopelessness and disturbed sleep. The researchers repeated the procedures after three months, six months, nine months, and finally after a year . The final results proved that regular exercise had decreased the feelings of depression in the study participants.
