New Research Shows Low sperm count and a weak libido are not correlated reports EjaculationTrainer101.org

(Medical-NewsWire.com, September 05, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- There has been some research done on the link between a man’s sexual drive and low sperm count which has indicated that there is no link between the two conditions.

A study done in Delhi, Indian, has worked on a couple whose names have been changed for confidentiality purposes. Varun and Priya Gupta had failed to have a child after six years of trying. The couple consulted a fertility expert where they found out that it was, in fact, not his wife who had any issues with conceiving. Rather, it was Varun who was suffering from Oligospermia.

Oligospermia is a condition that indicates that the patient has a low sperm count. Due to this problem, Varun was advised to look into Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) or Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

It has been a common misconception among people that low sperm count may also mean a weaker sex drive. Doctors have now concluded that it is not the case, a man’s sexual driver and low sperm count is not correlated. The lower testosterone will not amount to lower libido in most cases.

"A man with a high libido or sex drive may suffer from low sperm count. The two aren't connected," said fertility expert, Dr Sonia Malik, said according to the TimesofIndia.com.

Dr. Rohatgi from India has said that low sperm count patients are often advised abstinence to improve their sperm count but new research has suggested that too much abstinence can damage the DNA of the sperm that is produced.

"Although only one sperm is needed to fertilize an egg, several studies have shown that its fertilizing ability starts diminishing if the sperm concentration is below 15 million/ml or if the percentage of normal spermatozoa is below 5%. However, men can produce new sperm every 68-74 days and in case of an abnormal sperm test it should be repeated to confirm the results. On the contrary, women are born with a fixed egg number, which declines with age especially after 35 years," Dr. Rohatgi said.

Sometimes men with testicular problems suffer with low sperm count, anti-oxidants have a good effect on the testis. People suffering from testicular problems should take green vegetables in their diets as they are high in anti-oxidants.
