Survey reveals Good News for Individuals in the Medical Coding Field with raise in Salaries reports CPCCertificationHQ.com

(Medical-NewsWire.com, October 12, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- According to a new survey, professionals in the Medical Coding field are earning over $900 more than they did last year, in 2011. The survey was conducted by the AAPC; a specialized organization whose goal is to adequately train and certify members of the medical community.

They survey claims that the average salary for a Medical coder, in 2012, should be $47,796. It was conducted with over 20,000 participants over an entire summer.

According to David Blackmer a spokesperson for the organization, the government implementations of rules and regulations have been partially responsible for the increase in pay. In an interview he stated, “Certified coders with the ability to help maintain compliance and profitability are in more demand,” he said. “I think coders find themselves doing more, in general.”

He went on to say “Clinicians want to practice medicine and they need knowledgeable and experienced staff to keep their facilities in business”. In response to his assumptions that the rise in salary output by businesses will continue steadily.

As far as the survey, which will be officially published in October, 44 percent of participants believed that this field was their long term career goal.

Demographically, 19 percent of participants currently work in rural areas while 37 percent work in a suburban area. The majority stated they worked in an urban environment.

There were some components that added to the salary hike, for instance, the survey noted that those with a bachelor’s degree were more likely to earn over 21 percent more than those who do not have a degree of higher education. Even more so, those who possessed a master’s degree earned a whopping 46 percent more than participants who held a bachelor’s.

The highest average income of a Medical Coder is $54,980; which is relating to the states of Oregon, Alaska, Hawaii, and Washington; all of which are on the pacific side of the country.
