(Medical-NewsWire.com, November 18, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- Rocky Mountain Hyperbaric Institute in Boulder, Colorado has found an unexpected treatment for military personnel who have returned from traumatic experiences.
In 2012, it is estimated that there has been one military suicide everyday. Troops are returning home with serious mental health issues that are effecting their everyday lives and include headaches, memory loss, balance problems, and cognitive difficulties. These issues have been causing too many suicides, and so far, no one has been able to do anything about it.
However, on this veterans day, their might be a breakthrough and while it cannot help everybody, it may be able to make a difference. The Rocky Mountain Hyperbaric Institute in Boulder reports that veterans who use hyperbaric oxygen therapy are experiencing positive results.
The therapy uses 100% oxygen in a pressurized chamber and treats wounds in the body. It provides the body with up to fifteen times more oxygen than regular breathing and can help replenish lost brain cells. Due to this specific function, the therapy has been used on troops returning with inner body trauma from roadside explosions, loud gunfire, or any other experience that could cause brain damage.
Owner and director of the Institute, Ryan Fullmer, has his own story to corroborate the effects of the treatment. At age 8, Fullmer experienced a stroke and has had trouble walking ever since. When he turned 22, he tried the new therapy at a local clinic in Denver and said he was walking better within a week. Because of the treatment’s profound affect on Fullmer, he started his own clinic back in 2008. Fullmer says he had treated over 300 patients with the new therapy, and thinks that one of the biggest groups that can use it is veterans.
One success story came from Army Sergeant Margaux Mange. Mange served two tours in Iraq where she helped to train Iraqi police and on her second tour, one of her vehicles was hit by a roadside bomb. Mange suffered a serious concussion and when she returned home, she was forced to go on pain medications to alleviate the everyday pain. After months, Mange said she was getting tired of life the way it was and contemplated suicide. She even underwent brain surgery, but nothing helped.
In 2010, Marge tried the new oxygen therapy at HBOT. After 80 sessions, she said she felt a million times better and was able to stop medication intake.
This is just one story of many backing the success of hyperbolic blood treatment.
On this veterans day, we may have found a healing device to help those affected by trauma. It is not a cure, but accounts prove that it can really help.
