Studies find Obesity Fat can Lead to Toxicity reports Body Pure

(Medical-NewsWire.com, November 20, 2012 ) San Diego, CA -- Two recent studies have revealed that it may not be how fat you are, but what type of fat you have that can cause serious metabolic issues.

Obesity is a worldwide epidemic and new research proves it may be worse than expected. There are two kinds of fat that the human body creates. One type is the subcutaneous adipose tissue, which occurs under the skin. The other fat is visceral fat, which accumulates in muscle and between inner organs. While most research has seen visceral fat as the real threat to metabolic health, which can cause harmful diseases such as diabetes, it now has been found the subcutaneous fat could be just as harmful.

Ishwarlal Jialal of the University of California, Davis Medical Center in Sacramento did a study of subcutaneous fat from 65 people, the majority of whom were obese. The findings were disturbing.

Jialal concluded that the macrophages found in the fat appeared to be working with the fat to create forms of “proinflammatory cytokines,” which are cells that interfere with the production of insulin. As common knowledge, we know that a lack of insulin can lead to horrible diseases like diabetes. Jialal pointed out that while many see excess fat as the reason for such diseases. The truth is that that even those with lower fat levels can have issues depending on what kind of fat they have.

A study in the Journal of American College of Cardiology concluded: while it is surely less healthy to have excess fat for reasons beyond metabolic health, it does not necessarily mean that if you are a lean person you are out of the water when it comes to harmful metabolic diseases. Head researcher of the study, Noyan Gokce of Boston University Medical School, said that his findings show that it may not be the quantity of fat, but rather the quality that can determine a person’s health.

While these studies are shocking, they may help in the future of medical treatment. no longer will doctors dismiss patients with a seemingly lower amount of fat as healthy. Subcutaneous fat may be a growing danger for people of all shapes and sizes. It is important that this issue be researched more in order to better the findings of recent studies.
