Sexual Health And Education At Wetheindie.com Promotes Supplements For Prostate Health

(Medical-NewsWire.com, November 22, 2012 ) London, UK -- The increasing incidence of prostate cancer has caught the attention of the world. Although the issue of prostate cancer concerns men over the age of 40, prostatitis affects all ages. When we talk about prostate health, we mean not just curing the cancer but attaining an optimum health condition for the prostate. The statistical data is grim, with over 230,000 men being diagnosed with prostate cancer every year and about 30,000 dying of it. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) statistics says over 50% of men in their 60s and as many as 90% in their 70s or older have BPH symptoms. Accall for a more aggressive campaign against these diseases is needed.

Although prostate cancer is treatable especially in early detection, a recent study showed that obesity increases the risk of prostate cancer. A new research published in BMC Medicine, an open access journal in BioMed Central states that “fat surrounding the prostate of overweight or obese men with prostate cancer provides a favorable environment to promote cancer growth”. This particular study was composed on an international team led by Prof Gema Frühbeck and Dr Ricardo Ribeiro. They analyzed the fat from around the prostate of patients undergoing surgery for prostate disease. He says of their observations, “…Taken together with the abnormal activity levels of other genes they will ultimately foster fat mass growth, reduce immune surveillance, and promote the formation of new blood vessels, so producing a favorable environment for prostate cancer progression." Dr Ribeiro continued, "In an increasingly obese population, understanding how fat, especially the fat surrounding the prostate, can influence the growth and severity of prostate cancer may provide an opportunity for implementing personalized lifestyle and therapeutic strategies."

In is therefore important to maintain a healthy lifestyle in order to prevent the development of prostate cancer cells as well as keeping further progression of the disease. Eating the right kind of food and taking supplements to promote healthy prostate is a must. The American Cancer Society Guidelines on Nutrition and Physical Activity states that in order to prevent cancer, we should “eat a healthy diet, with an emphasis on plant foods.”

The risk of cancer in today’s world is real and truly menacing. Keeping an eye on our health is more rewarding than acting on it when the disease is there. For more practical information on prostate cancer, visit http://wetheindie.com.
