Nick Heywood-Smith Announces Positive Outcome In Defamation Challenge To Australian ABC Program

(Medical-NewsWire.com, December 27, 2012 ) Kent Town, South Australia -- Nick Heywood-Smith, CEO of Wellness & Lifestyles, has announced his acceptance of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s (ABC) offer to amend transcripts and videos of an episode of the 7.30 Report. Mr Heywood-Smith launched legal action against the ABC, claiming the episode was defamatory to himself, his companies (Wellness & Lifestyles Australia and W&L Consultancy), and the aged care industry in Australia.

Transcripts and audio of a preview of the story aired by the ABC Radio PM program have also been amended to remove material that was identified as defamatory by Mr Heywood-Smith and his legal team.

Immediately the story aired, Mr Heywood-Smith, on behalf of his companies, sought legal advice on what he considered to be inaccuracies and imputations contained in the program episode.

“We are satisfied that these changes have now been made by the ABC” said Mr Heywood-Smith.

“At this time we wish to acknowledge the support that we received from various individuals and organizations, after the programs were aired” he said.

“The story cast a shadow not just over my name and Wellness & Lifestyles’, but also over the aged care industry in general, and the very hard working staff it employs” he explained.

“Aged care industry bodies rallied to support Wellness & Lifestyles’ commitment to helping their members to receive the correct amount of government funding for the residents in their care” said Mr Heywood-Smith.

“We have worked with over 250 facilities, right across Australia, and they have seen first-hand that W&L has a commitment to professional, legal and ethical practices. They have been our biggest supporters in the months since the 7.30 Report story aired.”

With the changes to the ABC programs’ transcripts, video and audio now in effect, and with the ongoing support of the aged care industry, Wellness & Lifestyles is focused on delivering its services to even more facilities in 2013.
