(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 14, 2008 ) Cincinnati, OH – Despite the substantial decline in teenage pregnancy throughout the 1990s, the United States continues to have one of the highest rates of adolescent pregnancy, childbearing and abortion in the industrialized world. The incidence of sexually transmitted infections among U.S. and Ohio teens is also higher than many industrialized countries.
So, with a continued mission of reducing teen pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases and abortion, Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio Region (PPSWO), The Harmony Project, The Women’s Center at the University of Cincinnati and The Women’s Fund of The Greater Cincinnati Foundation will introduce a new program to proactively address these issues, dubbed ‘The New 3Rs — Rights, Respect, Responsibility. The conversation will take place on Friday, May 9, 2008, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Rookwood Conference Center, 7th floor, 3805 Edwards Road, Cincinnati, OH 45209.
Barbara Huberman, author of “299 Ways to Prevent Teen Pregnancy” and “Building Local Councils on Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention” will introduce The New 3Rs to Southwest Ohio. Huberman founded and served as president from 1985 through 1995 of the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Coalition of North Carolina and has been actively involved in human sexuality education and adolescent sexuality issues for over 30 years.
“We can do so much better for young people, and it all starts with honest, candid conversations between adults and youth. Planned Parenthood President & CEO, Becki Brenner explains. “We all agree that we want healthy teens. By having an open dialogue together we can all do better for this region and our community, with the ultimate goal of reducing unintended pregnancy and abortion, and incidence and spread of STDs.
