SmartLipo MPX - The Latest Advancement in Laser Body Sculpting

(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 19, 2008 ) The advancement in liposuction techniques is hitting a new level with the increasing popularity of SmartLipo MPX. Patterned after the original smart lipo procedures developed in Europe and launched in the US in 2007, SmartLipo MPX implements a new wave of technology to increase the effectiveness and safety of laser lipolysis.

The SmartLipo MPX is the only dual-wavelength laser that the FDA has cleared to liquefy fat and tighten skin. Traditional liposuction methods cause bleeding, bruising and loose skin. Smart Lipo MPX causes only minor bruising and muscle aches, and actually tightens skin by remodeling the collagen left behind, similar to methods used to repair acne scars.

Cynosure, Inc., the company that developed and manufactured the original SmartLipo system, announced the new and improved Smart Lipo MPX (MultiPlex) in April (see www.smartlipo-mpx.com), and it premiered at the May 2008 American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery's 41st Annual Meeting in San Diego CA. In the past few months it has taken the world of aesthetic and cosmetic surgery by storm, with its ability to deliver results in record time with minimum pain or bruising.

‘Lunch hour lipo’ became popular several years ago when the original Smart Lipo was found to be the perfect solution for women who could not take off for weeks to have body contouring done. The old methods of liposuction, which at least one doctor has termed ‘barbaric’, required long recovery times and were extremely painful. Laser body sculpting was developed as a way to liquefy fat and allow it to drain off without strong suctioning techniques.

Smart Lipo MPX helps increase blood vessel coagulation and spreads heat more evenly, while the lasers utilize incisions so small no stitches are required. It uses the new Multiplex system which has made it possible for two wavelengths to be fired sequentially, which allows maximum fat liquefaction and tightens skin resulting in much better results that regular liposuction can deliver.

"The combination of wavelengths in the Smart Lipo MPX is very effective for the laser lipolysis patient," said Barry DiBernardo, M.D.. DiBernardo is the Medical Director of New Jersey Plastic Surgery and the speaker who presented Smart Lipo MPX at the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery's meeting. “The blending of the two wavelengths together provides us a very gradual and safer slope to achieve our goal skin temperature, which allows for a more uniform delivery of laser energy, enhancing both the efficacy and safety profile of the system."

“The treatment quality and safety of our system helped us to establish SmartLipo as the standard for laser lipolysis in the U.S.," said Cynosure President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Davin. "Now we aim to replicate that success with Smartlipo MPX.”

Davin added that while the Smartlipo MPX model is geared toward dermatologists and plastic surgeons with a high volume of liposuction procedures, Cynosure will continue to offer and fully support the original single wavelength Smartlipo system.
