Digestive Care Expert and Author, Brenda Watson, Offers Tips for Preventing Tummy Troubles

(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 14, 2009 ) Brenda Watson, renowned authority on digestive health and author of The H.O.P.E. Formula and The Fiber35 Diet, has released five free tips teaching people how to avoid common digestive woes including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), constipation, and heartburn.

"Even seemingly minor digestive problems can cause someone embarrassment or discomfort," says Bonnie Cooper, vice president of marketing for ReNew Life Formulas, Inc., which distributes Watson's H.O.P.E. Kit and other digestive health products. "Fortunately, many of these problems can be prevented fairly easily. These tips from Brenda Watson will help people do just that."

Brenda Watson offers the following five tips for preventing common digestive troubles:

1. Stay hydrated. - The body needs adequate hydration to keep the digestive tract flushed of toxins. Aim to drink half of your body weight in ounces of water (for example, a 160 pound person should try to drink approximately 80 ounces of water daily).

2. Increase fiber intake. - Increase intake of both soluble and insoluble fiber to prevent constipation, IBS, and Candidiasis. Insoluble fiber bulks up the stool, helping it move through the intestines, while soluble fiber keeps sugars from being absorbed too quickly during digestion. Aim for 75 percent insoluble and 25 percent soluble fiber.

3. Replace intestinal flora. - Everyone's gut features a variety of "good" and "bad" bacteria. If the proper balance isn't maintained, IBS can result. To prevent irritable bowel syndrome and its symptoms like constipation and abdominal pain, consider taking probiotic supplements daily to increase the "good bacteria" in the body. Look for supplements that are slow-release (releasing the bacteria in the intestines) and which contain Acidofilus and Bifidus.

4. Add digestive enzymes. - If the body isn't producing enough of its own digestive enzymes, it has to work harder to digest foods, which can lead to heartburn and other health issues. Prevent them by supplementing the diet with natural digestive enzymes, which can be found in both capsule and chewable forms.

5. Get more exercise. - Losing excess weight isn't a guarantee that someone will have perfect digestive health, but it may decrease the frequency of problems like heartburn or constipation. Just don't exercise vigorously too soon after eating, or digestion will be temporarily slowed down, which can lead to the very problems trying to be prevented.

Brenda Watson offers a variety of products including the ReNew Life product line and the H.O.P.E. Kit, which feature digestive enzymes, Omega-3 essential fatty acids, fiber supplements, and probiotics--all necessary for optimal digestive health.
