Gout Remedies- How a Small Change in Diet Can Prevent Arthritis

(EMAILWIRE.COM, September 05, 2011 ) Singapore, SN -- The amount of research into gout remedies is likely to increase dramatically over the next few years. This is due to the rapidly increasing number of people with gout. Gout is caused by an excess of uric acid in the blood.

There are four primary stages of the disease, but the first stageÂ’s only symptom is a higher-than-average uric acid concentration. The signs and symptoms of the last three stages are very similar. These stages are indicated by a sharp, intense pain in the area affected by the disease. Usually this area is the big toe in the the foot, but gout can develop in other locations as well.

Although there are some uncontrollable factors that influence the risk of gout, many factors are easily controlled. For example, exercise has been proven to greatly reduce the risk of gout. Because you are forcing your body to pump blood faster and dispose of excess acid, it will be more pure and lower your risk of developing the disease.

Another important factor is diet. By eating a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, you are less likely to develop gout by keeping your blood alkaline.

In the event that you do develop the disease, there are a number of foods to avoid with gout. These are generally the same ones you would avoid if you are trying to prevent it, because they are the foods that make your blood more acidic.

The biggest group of foods not to eat with gout is animal products such as meat or fish. Eggs are okay, but meat and fish are very high in a chemical called purine. When purine is broken down in the body, uric acid is developed which is what you want to avoid.

Although some meats and fish are okay, the biggest ones to avoid are pork, deer, goat, lamb, organ meats, herring, mussels, and sardines.

A few other foods to consider avoiding are anchovies, grouse, mutton, bacon, turkey, goose, haddock and scallops.

As you probably noticed these are most of the very fatty meat and fish. Even if a food is not mentioned here, if it has a lot fat you may want to consider an alternative.

Another group of foods not to eat with gout is anything with a lot of sugar, salt, or white flour such as certain breads. These have been proven to increase uric acid level, which will likely cause a painful flare-up from your gout.

If these foods mentioned make up the staples of your diet, donÂ’t worry. There are a number of gout recipes you can prepare that are proven to minimize the chances of a gout attack.

A few example recipes to consider can be found at http://www.thegoutremedies.com/. This is a new resource for preventing and treating gout.

The most important thing to remember with gout is that your body developed the disease from being too acidic. By simply changing your diet and increasing exercise and rest, you can usually reverse the effects of the disease over time.
