 (EMAILWIRE.COM, March 03, 2012 ) Washington, DC -- A survey was conducted jointly by Liberty Mutual Insurance and Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) that focused on teens driving while under the influence of marijuana and alcohol.
The survey revealed a shocking statistic: nineteen percent of teens said that they have driven after smoking marijuana. In the same survey, thirteen percent of teenagers reported having driven under the influence of alcohol.
Perhaps even more disturbing is that one-third of the teens who participated in the survey indicated that they didnÂ’t believe that being under the influence of marijuana affected their driving at all.
“The attitude of indifference among the teens surveyed is very concerning for us,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center. “This indifference indicates a growing acceptance of using marijuana and thinking that it’s really no big deal. If we don’t educate teenagers about the dangers of driving after using drugs or alcohol, I fear that we’re going to see an increased incidence in motor vehicle related accidents caused by impaired driving.”
