(Medical-NewsWire.com, August 15, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- The new health care law in the United States is called the Affordable Care Act and by many in congress it is considered to be an unaffordable option for millions of low income people. According to nytimes.com, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has not shared details of the new law, which is causing ambiguity at every level.
“The effect of this wrong interpretation of the law will be that many families remain or potentially become uninsured,” said a letter to the administration from Democrats.
With the introduction of Affordable Care Act, some mediocre families will be unable to afford family health insurance provided by their employers but still they will not be eligible for the benefits offered by the federal government.
“Employers who offer health coverage do so primarily on behalf of their employees,” said Kathryn Wilber, a lawyer at the American Benefits Council that represents several Fortune 500 companies. “Although many employers do provide family coverage to full-time employees, many do not.”
With the income gap between rich and poor at its highest, it has become increasingly difficult to define affordable under provisions of the new law. The process of deciding who gets help from the government can have severe consequences, the source further explained.
The law states that most Americans will be required to get a health insurance cover by 2014. People with low salaries are expected to get tax credit and other paybacks to pay their premiums unless they have access to economical insurance from their employers.
If worker’ share of the payment is more than 9.5% of the total household income, the employers sponsored health covered will not be considered unaffordable. The IRS states that the calculation should take into account only the cost of individual coverage for the worker i.e. what an employee will pay for his self only insurance.
